Welcome Fall

As the cooler nights stretch into cooler days and leaves can be seen through the window pane, it is time to consider a change up to our design. Perhaps as simple as adding a Faribault blanket or rich velvet pillows to the sofa is a practical start. Maybe we adjust our floor plan to one that is more cozy and conducive to conversation as our lives move from the patios outdoors into the warmth of our living rooms. Whatever your style is, its’s time to welcome fall and all her glorious colors and textures! Here are a few suggestions to get you inspired.

Autumn

A collection of squash and gourds in various sizes, textures and colors sets the tone for the harvest season. Adding lanterns and mums (especially yellow and violet that contrast beautifully with the colors of squash)will help welcome friends to your door. Offer your guests a place to wipe the fall leaves from their shoes with a new door mat in a punch of color and texture.

Entry

A bench is a nice addition to an entry offering a space to sit and remove shoes. If your entry doesn't allow space for a bench or chair, consider an ottoman that can be tucked under a console table and then pulled out for use when needed. Cleaning out the entry closet to accommodate empty hanger space for guest is a great idea this time of year. There are super stylish coat trees that can offer sculptural appeal and functionality.

Living

Bringing organic elements indoors offers an opportunity to savor the season. A collection of found rocks, pinecones, nuts or driftwood can add visual interest. Willow branches, sunflowers and branches with seedpods collected in vases can add height, texture and color to a space. Collecting these items is half the fun! There are many faux stems available that look quite real!

Kitchen/Dining

Displaying glass containers filled with barley, lentils, black rice or adzuki beans provide beautiful color and texture in addition to healthy food options. Favorite serving bowls or platters in rich fall colors and patterns make a great statement on the wall, dining table or kitchen counter. Beautifully loomed table runners and napkins are available in colors that echo the fall season.

Bedroom/Bath

As the night time temperatures drop, it’s time to bring out the duvet and elevate the cozy factor! A linen cover is a great option providing warmth and softness. Velvets, silks and faux furs are all cozy compliments to an inviting fall bed. Switching out rugs at the season change can be a real treat to the senses, visually as well as tactile -under foot! (See an array of rugs from www.organiclooms.com at the DDC in the photo below.) Filling a tray or bowl with black beans and then using it as a holding place for frequently worn jewelry is a fun trick taken from retail. If your towels are worn from use over the summer months, consider refreshing the bathroom with new towels in a punch of color!

Have fun with the ways you welcome fall into your home. These suggestions are intended to inspire you to play with your design and décor!
